Tieks Highlights Brown Girls Do Ballet for Black History Month

Brown Girls Do Ballet was highlighted by Tieks by Gavrieli as part of their Black History Month campaign promoting organizations that are geared toward the empowerment of Black women. We are honored to be a part of the campaign and grateful for Tieks’ support!

Tieks also highlighted Project Diva International, the AAIMM Village Fund, and Black Women in Business as part of the campaign.

Tieks published the following statement in an Instagram post this morning:

“Throughout Black History Month, we’ve been honored to share a few incredible organizations we’ve gotten to know as part of our commitment to elevating the voices of Black women. Today, we’re excited to highlight our final organization, Brown Girls Do Ballet. Led by founder and Executive Director TaKiyah Wallace, Brown Girls Do Ballet aims to promote diversity in the arts and increase participation of underrepresented populations in ballet programs. By organizing performances and photo exhibitions featuring Black and Brown ballerinas and by providing resources and scholarships to assist young girls in their ballet development and training, Brown Girls Do Ballet empowers girls, ensures more opportunities for dancers of color, and trailblazes diversity and mentorship in ballet.

“Our grant to Brown Girls Do Ballet provides support for their Scholarship and Pointe Shoe Programs, helping them offer summer intensive and college scholarships for dancers of color and assist dancers demonstrating need with the purchase of pointe shoes, one of the significant costs associated with ballet. “We hope that supporting and sharing the important work being done by Brown Girls Do Ballet along with Black Women In Business, the AAIMM Village Fund, and Project DIVA International helps create positive change for Black women and girls across the country.”
