2022 Mid-Year Update

We hope you’ve been enjoying your summer as much as we’re enjoying ours. In fact, we’ve been enjoying every bit of 2022 and all of its developments! From scholarship updates, to dance community support, and updates on TaKiyah’s whereabouts, keep reading for a quick Mid-Year Recap.

TaKiyah’s Travels

  • Every March, the South by Southwest festival takes place in Austin, TX, where global professionals convene for a variety of films, talent showcases, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and more. This year, TaKiyah traveled to the festival to represent BGDB and the City of Fort Worth. Save your spot for next year!

  • The BGDB team visited and toured several schools throughout the south, learning more about their performing arts programs.

Janie and Jack Partnership

  • You may recall that we partnered with the popular children’s clothing store, Janie and Jack, last year. This spring, TaKiyah and the BGDB team visited the Janie and Jack store in Cypress, TX, where many of the items from the Brown Girls Do Ballet collection are sold. Meta’s We The Culture Program

  • We The Culture, which was created in 2020 by Meta (formally Facebook), supports Black creators by helping them reach their audiences and develop a sustainable network of connections in their field. This year, TaKiyah was invited back for her second year in the program. Check out some behind-the-scenes looks of her involvement.

Scholarships and Grants

  • Supporting dancers with resources - both tangible and intangible - is a huge part of our mission at Brow Girls Do Ballet. That’s why we offer a variety of scholarships and grants for dancers (and non-dancers) of various ages and backgrounds. So far this year, we’ve awarded Micro Grants and provided tuition assistance for several dancers. We also launched and awarded our first bath of Tiny Dancer Scholarships, which are for dancers as young as 4.

Supply Closet Updates

  • You may be familiar with our Supply Closet, an initiative we created to serve young dancers in need by providing free supplies donated by businesses and individuals. So far this year, we were able to fulfill several Supply Closet requests for items such as ballet shoes, leotards, and pointe shoes! Costs for these dancewear items can quickly add up, so we’re happy to help dancers and their parents with these donations. Learn more about our Supply Closet and how you can donate items today
