Brown Girls Do Ballet® is a division of Brown Girls Do™, Inc, a registered 501(c)3 committed to promoting diversity in the arts by providing annual scholarships, a mentor network, and community programs to empower young girls. Our mission is supported by merchandise sales and fundraisers. It's with your interest and commitment that we have achieved recognition from The Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, and the Washington Post, to name a few. Until recently, Brown Girls Do Ballet was primarily internally funded, with a small amount of operating income coming from artwork, merchandise sales, and event donations. We are excited about our success and what the future holds, but we need your help.
We are operated by a team of volunteers, no one draws a salary from Brown Girls Do™, so we depend on your donated dollars to continue providing support, resources, and training for girls and young women in ballet programs. To help us cover the costs of running and expanding this organization, we are launching a donation campaign for the months of June & July. Our fundraising goal of $30,000 will fund our College Scholarship program, our annual calendar series, operating costs, (such as our website, printing, and shipping), Brown Girls Do Ballet program support (such as our mentors and ambassador programs), merchandise, The Recital, our annual fundraising event and a brand-new book project: Promenade. We are no longer just a small photography project, but a growing organization, seeking to continue supporting underrepresented minority populations in ballet programs.
If you would like to see Brown Girls Do Ballet continue to highlight and celebrate diversity in ballet and provide access and opportunity to underserved ballerinas, please donate today. We asked you last year to help us reach 10K in donations, and you delivered. Those donations allowed us to continue operations for another year. We hope you can find it in your hearts to donate to us again so we can reach more Brown Girls in need, help diversify ballet programs and of course, bring you the same quality images you have come to enjoy on our social media pages and in our annual calendar. If only 6% of our Instagram followers gave $5, we’d exceed our goal in one day.
